Born in 1941, the professor worked at the institution for decades, with interruptions, from 1968 until his retirement, and played a decisive role in establishing computer science education in Eger.
In the life of the university, Dr. Lajos Csőke was a person who recognised the challenges of a changing world and was able to help the institution move forward with those changes. Starting from mathematics education, he turned toward computer science and took on a leading role in the operation of the Department of Computer Science, before later founding the Department of Information Technology.
This step significantly transformed the university’s educational structure and contributed in the long term to the institution becoming a nationally recognised centre of computer science education.
The programmer mathematician training programme he launched, along with professional competitions and international conferences — including the conference series on applied informatics — opened new perspectives for the university. The institution stood out among other higher education centres and became an academic meeting point where both Hungarian and international professionals appeared.
